Photographic Research and Inquiry

I chose the image "Piss Christ" by Andres Serrano.

My immediate reaction to this image is the beautiful use of color used. Studying it closer you can decipher the subject matter, which can come across as shocking. For me, personally, I find it interesting and appealing. It has such a strong concept. Without knowing the artists intent, you can clearly see that the subject matter is a crucifix submerged in a yellow fluid. When I first saw this image I just knew it was urine. Although it is urine, it makes such a beautiful, almost ironic, golden glow throughout the image,
There is an awesome play of rule of thirds going on in this piece. I really think the light source helps the piece dramatically and it really plays up the concept. There is also a nice contrast happening between the light in the figure and the dark amber background.
